What height should I adjust the head restraint in my BMW to?

Adjust the head restraint so its center supports the back of the head at as close to eye level as possible. Adjust the distance so that the head restraint is as close as possible to the back of the head. Adjust the distance via the backrest tilt as needed. 

 

Depending on which BMW Operating System your vehicle has, perform the following steps.

 

BMW Operating System 7 and 8:

Adjusting the height:

▷ To lower: press the button, and push the head restraint down.

▷ To raise: push the head restraint up. After setting the height, make sure that the head restraint engages correctly. 

 

Adjusting distance:

▷ Back: press the button and push the head restraint toward the rear.

▷ Forward: pull the head restraint toward the front.

After setting the distance, make sure that the head restraint engages correctly. 

 

BMW Operating System 8.5:

Adjusting the height:

Press switch up or down.

 

Adjusting the distance:

Press the button and push the head restraint forward or backward. After setting the distance, make sure that the head restraint engages correctly.

 

BMW Operating System 9:

Adjusting the height:

▷ To lower the height of the head restraint, press the locking button on the backrest, then push the head restraint downward.

▷ To raise the height of the head restraint, push the head restraint upward. 

 

Adjusting the distance:
The backrest tilt is used to set the distance between the head restraint and the back of the seat occupant's head. Adjust the distance so that the head restraint is as close as possible to the back of the head.
