How do I activate the welcome light in my BMW?

The welcome light turns on automatically for a limited period of time when approaching or unlocking the vehicle. 

 

Depending on which BMW Operating System your vehicle has, perform the following steps.

 

BMW iDrive Operating System 7:

Activating/deactivating welcome light

  1. "CAR"
  2. "Settings"
  3. "Exterior lighting"
  4. Depending on the equipment, select the following setting:
    • ▷ "Welcome and goodbye" When unlocking the vehicle, individual lighting functions are switched on for a limited time.
    • ▷ "Door handle lights" Door handles and the ground in front of the doors are illuminated for a limited time.
    • ▷ "Welcome Light Carpet" The area next to the vehicle is illuminated for a limited time. 

BMW Operating System 8 and 8.5:

Activating/deactivating welcome light:

  1. Apps menu
  2. "Vehicle apps"
  3. "Exterior lighting"
  4. If necessary, "Additional settings"
  5. Depending on the equipment, select the following setting:
    • ▷ "Welcome and goodbye" When unlocking the vehicle, individual lighting functions are turned on. 

BMW Operating System 9:

Activating/deactivating welcome light:

Go through the menu as follows via iDrive:

  1. Apps menu
  2. "Vehicle"
  3. "Exterior lighting"
  4. "Settings"
  5. Select the desired setting, depending on vehicle equipment:
    • ▷ "Welcome and goodbye" 
    • When unlocking the vehicle, individual lighting functions are turned on.
