What benefits do the Shift lights offer in my BMW M vehicle?

The Shift lights in your BMW M vehicle indicate the right time to shift up to achieve fast acceleration values. Depending on the selected M mode, the Shift lights are shown in the BMW Head-up display (SPORT, TRACK) or in the instrument cluster (ROAD). Fields that light up yellow in succession indicate an upcoming shift point. Shift when all fields illuminate red at the latest. When the maximum rotational speed is reached, the entire display flashes and the fuel supply is cut off to protect the engine.

 

Please note: If equipped with M Steptronic Sport transmission, sequential mode must be selected for the Shift lights to be displayed. Depending on the model and equipment, the availability of the Shift lights may vary.
