If I pay more than the total amount due, do the additional amounts go towards principal?

Yes. If you pay more than the amount due listed on your monthly statement, the extra amounts will be applied towards principal. When you receive your next monthly statement, it will show how much of your previous payment was applied towards principal and interest. If your total amount due is decreased by the extra amounts that you had paid extra, not to worry. Continue paying your regular payment amount, or more, and the extra amounts will stay on your balance. Ultimately this will save you money on interest and allow you to payoff your vehicle early.
