How does the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant differ from other voice assistants, such as Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple Siri?

The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant is optimized for operation of various vehicle functions of your BMW by voice. It acts context-related to your mobility requirements, taking into account the vehicle condition and the outside world. Among other things, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant can control the air conditioning, interior lighting, audio system, windows and sliding/tilting sunroof, My Modes and the operation of various driver assistance systems. With the help of your smartphone's voice assistants - Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri or Google Assistant - you can control the apps on your smartphone. You can activate the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with "Hello BMW!", "Hey BMW!" or a personal wake word. You can activate Apple Siri or Google Assistant by a long press on the microphone button on the steering wheel, and Amazon Alexa by the wake word "Alexa!". If you connect your Amazon account with your BMW ID in your BMW with BMW Operating System 9 (from 07/2025) and BMW Digital Premium, you can also use "Hey BMW!" to access selected Amazon Alexa functions. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant then provides content from Alexa using its own voice.

 

Please note: To use voice assistants on your smartphone in your BMW, it must be connected to your BMW via Bluetooth® and you must have accepted the privacy settings.
