BMW Remote software upgrades provide new functions, enhancements, and quality improvements for your BMW. Once an update finishes downloading via the My BMW app, you will receive a notification to install the update in your BMW. Please ensure that you have a strong cellular or WiFi signal when using your mobile device to download an update.
In order for the Remote Software Update to finish installing in your BMW, you must be parked on a flat surface with the parking brake engaged and the headlights switched off. The engine must also be relatively cool, and the battery sufficiently charged. Once the update is ready to install, you will have the option to "Perform upgrade now" once you turn the engine off.
For vehicles with BMW Operating System 8/8.5/9, to confirm an installation, you will be prompted when the vehicle is stopped, and asked to follow on-screen prompts. You can also schedule when the installation will occur before confirming, as well as read information about the new update to your BMW.
Please note that while an update is installing, you are unable to use your BMW. Park your BMW safely for up to 20 minutes while running the installation.
