What is the difference between an electric vehicle and a plug-in hybrid?

The main difference comes down to its power system. A battery electric vehicle, also known as an all-electric vehicle (EV or BEV), is entirely powered by an electric motor. Plug-in hybrids (PHEV) have a dual power system that combine an electric motor with a conventional gasoline engine.
