If your vehicle was parked outside during charging, the ambient temperature can significantly impact the charging process. At high temperatures, the vehicle's charging logic is designed to protect the battery by cooling it down. This cooling process can consume more energy than the Level 1 charger can provide, resulting in a net loss of charge.
While your vehicle is plugged in, it may be using energy to maintain optimal battery temperature, especially in hot weather. This is a normal function of the vehicle's battery management system to ensure the longevity and safety of the battery. If you experience this issue, consider charging your vehicle in cooler conditions or on Level 2 (240V).
BMW of North America does not recommend charging on a household 120V outlet. Learn more about what to consider before deciding on a home charging solution.
