Personal eSIM in BMWs with BMW Operating System 8 or BMW Operating System 9 offers enhanced telephone functionality, a personal Wi-Fi Hotspot and connectivity that easily follows you from BMW to BMW.
Get started by setting up your Personal eSIM.
- Open the My BMW app,
- Go to “Profile” under 3rd Party Services.
- Select “Personal eSIM” and “Activate eSIM.”
- Select your mobile provider and enter your number.
- Click “check with provider” to be directed to to your mobile network provider.
- Follow their instructions to finish the activation.
Once you have setup your Personal eSIM with your mobile provider, you will be able to download the eSIM profile to your vehicle. The Personal eSIM profile is linked to your BMW ID. To download the Personal eSIM, you must be logged into the vehicle with the same BMW ID you used to setup the eSIM via the MyBMW app.
- If you are already logged in to your BMW with the BMW ID used for setting up Personal eSIM, please wait a few minutes for the Personal eSIM profile to download. This should happen automatically.
- If you have not previously logged in to your BMW, select the profile icon in the top right of the vehicle's iDrive screen, then select "Add BMW ID". You will be given options to login. Once logged in, the Personal eSIM profile download process will proceed.
In your vehicle, ensure that WiFi hotspot access is enabled by following the steps below:
- Via iDrive: Apps menu
- "All apps"
- "Personal Hotspot"
- "Settings"
- Ensure that "Internet access for mobile devices" is turned on.
