How do I set the Lane Departure Warning time in my BMW with BMW Operating System 8 or newer?

Perform the following in the iDrive menu to set the Lane Departure Warning time.

 

BMW Operating System 8:

  1. Apps menu
  2. "Vehicle"
  3. "Driving settings"
  4. "Driver Assistance"
  5. "Safety and warnings"
  6. "Lane Departure Warning"
  7. Select the desired setting.
    • "Early"
    • "Medium"
    • "Reduced"

Some warnings are suppressed depending on the situation, for instance when purposely driving over lane markings in curves or with dynamic passing without a turn signal.

 

 

BMW Operating System 8.5 and BMW Operating System 9:

  1. Apps menu
  2. "Vehicle"
  3. "Driving settings"
  4. "Driver Assistance"
  5. "Safety and warnings"
  6. "Lane Departure Warning"
  7. Select the desired setting.
    • "Expanded":  If the system detects that your vehicle is about to leave your lane or cross a lane marking, a warning is issued. The system performs a steering intervention.
    • "In dangerous situations": With interrupted lane markings: If the system detects that your vehicle is about to inadvertently cross a lane marking, or if the sensors detect an oncoming vehicle, a warning is issued and a steering intervention is performed.
