The BMW Trailer Assistant is included in certain “Parking Assistant” options. When reversing with the BMW Trailer Assistant, the steering of the front wheels is accepted. The kink angle determines the angle between the vehicle and trailer and thus the desired direction of travel of the car-trailer combination in reverse.
With the Trailer Assistant, the car-trailer combination is not guided by the steering wheel when reversing, but by continuous correction of the articulation angle on the Control Display.
The system takes over the steering. The speed must be controlled by the driver using the accelerator pedal and the brake.
