Lane Keeping Assistant is an advanced safety system that is part of the Active Driving Assistance Suite and uses cameras to monitor the road's lane markings. If your vehicle begins to unintentionally drift out of its lane, the system will alert you, helping you to avoid potential collisions or unsafe maneuvers. This feature is activated by default, but to ensure it's enabled:
- Go to the iDrive menu
- Select Driver Assistance
- Then Safety and Warnings.
- From here, you confirm that lane departure warning is switched on.
While driving, Lane Keeping Assist continuously monitors lane markings at speeds above approximately 40mph. If it detects your vehicle unintentionally veering out of its lane without a turn signal, the system will gently steer you back or provide an alert through a vibration in the steering wheel. The system does not activate if you use your turn signal, allowing for intentional lane changes. You can choose between two modes on how sensitive the system gets engaged. You could also turn the steering intervention on or off. Remember that Lane Departure Warning is a Driver Assistance tool. It's not a substitute for your attention on the road.
