How do I enable, disable, or set Hill Descent Control in my BMW with BMW Operating System 7 and newer?

In BMW Operating System 7 and 8.5:

Press the 'Hill Descent Control' button on the switch console, next to the parking brake to activate or deactivate the control system.

Speeds between approx. 2 mph/3 km/h and approx. 20 mph/30 km/h are adopted as the set speed.

The system is automatically deactivated above approx. 25 mph/40 km/h.

Perform the following to set the desired speed for Hill Descent Control:

The set speed can be changed using the cruise control rocker switch on the steering wheel.
    • Press the rocker switch up: the speed increases gradually.
    • Press the rocker switch up and hold: the speed increases while the rocker switch is pressed.
    • Press the rocker switch down: the speed decreases gradually.
    • Press the rocker switch down and hold: the speed decreases while the rocker switch is pressed.

While the system is adjusting the speed, the set speed can be reduced by depressing the brake pedal.

In BMW Operating System 9:

Perform the following on the iDrive screen to activate or deactivate Hill Descent Control:
    1. Apps menu
    2. "Vehicle"
    3. "Driving settings"
    4. "Driver Assistance"
    5. "Hill Descent Control".

Hill Descent Control is automatically disabled at speeds above approx. 25 mph/40 km/h.

Perform the following to set the desired speed for Hill Descent Control:

The desired speed for Hill Descent Control can be set using the rocker button on the left of the steering wheel.
    • Press the rocker button up or down to gradually increase or decrease the set speed.
    • Press the rocker button up/down and hold it until the desired speed is reached.

While Hill Descent Control is regulating the vehicle speed, the set speed can be decreased by depressing the brake pedal.

Notes:
The icon and the selected set speed are displayed in the instrument cluster and the Head-up display.
    • Indicator green: Hill Descent Control is active. The system is actively braking the vehicle.
    • Indicator gray: Hill Descent Control is on standby.

While Hill Descent Control is regulating the vehicle speed, the following functions are deactivated:
    • Forward Collision Mitigation.
    • Emergency braking function of Active Park Distance Control.

If the Hill Descent Control malfunctions, a Check Control message is displayed on the instrument cluster.
