The Daytime Pedestrian Collision Mitigation is a warning function that notifies the driver of a possible risk of collision with pedestrians and cyclists and brakes automatically as necessary at speeds above approx. 3 mph/5 km/h. The system issues warnings for speeds that are common in towns and cities. In the event of an accident, the system helps by reducing impact speed.
Detection Range:
The detection range in front of the vehicle is divided into two areas:
- Central area, directly in front of the vehicle.
- Extended area, to the right and left of the central area.
There is a risk of collision if persons, e.g., pedestrians or cyclists, are located within the central area. A warning is issued about pedestrians who are located within the extended area only if they are moving in the direction of the central area.
The following situations may not be detected, for instance:
- Partially covered pedestrians or bikes.
- Pedestrians that are not detected as such because of their contour or posture.
- Pedestrians who are too small for the sensors to detect.
Upper speed limit: The system responds to pedestrians and cyclists when your vehicle speed is less than approx. 50 mph/80 km/h.
