How do I manually unlock the charging cable of my BMW electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle with BMW Operating System 8?

For safety reasons and to protect against theft, your BMW electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle locks the charging cable in the high voltage charging socket of your vehicle when charging begins. Unlocking is carried out automatically by the central unlocking system of your vehicle. To unlock the charging cable manually, press the "Driving settings menu" > "Charging" > "Unlock charging cable" > "Unlock charging cable immediately" button on the control display in BMW iDrive with BMW Operating System 8.

 

Alternatively, you can also unlock the charging cable in the My BMW App: Tap on the current charging process in the status bar of your vehicle and select "Unlock charging plug".

Please note: Unlocking the charging plug in the My BMW App terminates an ongoing charging process.
