How do I manually unlock the charging cable of my BMW electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle with BMW iDrive Operating System 7?

For safety reasons and to protect against theft, your BMW electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle locks the charging cable in the high-voltage charging socket of your vehicle when charging begins. Unlocking is carried out automatically by the central unlocking system of your vehicle. 

 

Perform the following to unlock the charging cable manually, in the event of an electrical fault:

  1. Open the front door on the side of the charging socket flap.
  2. Open rear door on the side of the charging socket flap.
  3. Remove the cover.
  4. Pull the lower knob. Charging cable is manually unlocked.
  5. Removing the charging cable.
  6. If necessary, press the knob back into the initial position.

 

Please note: After an emergency unlocking of the charging cable, you should have the locking system checked by your BMW service center.
