In BMW electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles, the high-voltage battery is charged via the high-voltage charging socket. Depending on the model, different installation locations and charging standards are used. For electric vehicles, the high-voltage charging socket is usually located where the fuel filler neck is located in a conventional vehicle. In plug-in hybrid vehicles, the charging socket cover is located in front on the left side of the vehicle. To open the charging socket cover, press on the rear edge, arrow. The charging socket cover opens.
In addition to charging the high-voltage battery, the high-voltage charging socket enables other functions, such as locking the charging plug or visualizing the charging status via the charging status indicator. The charging socket flap is locked or unlocked via the central locking function. The charging plug is also electrically unlocked by releasing the door locks or by executing the “Stop charging session” function. Depending on availability for your vehicle, you can unlock the charging plug with the "Stop" button located next to the charging socket or in the My BMW App. Tap on the current charging session in the status bar and select "Unlock charging plug".
Please note: Unlocking the charging plug in the My BMW App terminates an ongoing charging session.
