The message "Charging power reduced. Extended charging time" may appear in your BMW electric vehicle after consecutive DC charging sessions within a short period of time. The message usually presents itself during long distance driving with frequent charging stops.
Depending on the charging power of the DC charger and the amount of energy charged on the vehicle, the message may pop up sooner. For example, if a vehicle is consecutively charged at 200 kW DC chargers, where the energy charged is greater than 40 kWh, then the message would pop up sooner than it would if the vehicle was charged at a 100 kW DC charger with the same amount of energy charged.
Please note that DC charging is still available without interruption when this message is present but will begin reducing charging power as state of charge of the vehicle increases.
