How do I drive out of a parking space using the Automatic Park Assistant in my vehicle with BMW Operating System 7 or newer?

The Automatic Park Assistant in your vehicle with BMW Operating System 7 or newer supports you when driving out of parking spaces parallel or perpendicular to the road. Ultrasonic sensors measure the surroundings on both sides of your BMW. The system takes over vehicle control during the fully autonomous maneuver.

Depending on which BMW Operating System your vehicle is equipped with, perform the following on the center console to drive out of a parking space using the Automatic Park Assistant:

 

BMW Operating System 7
    1. Turn on drive-ready state.
    2. Steptronic transmission:
        Press the park assistance button or shift into reverse gear when the vehicle is stationary to switch on the Automatic Parking Assistant.
    3. Tilt the Controller to the right and activate the Automatic Parking Assistant on the control display: "Automatic Parking"
    4. Select the desired direction to drive out of the parking space on the control display.
    5. Follow the instructions on the control display.
        The parking operation is active.

        Steptronic transmission: The system takes control of the maneuver. A message will be displayed at the end of the maneuver.
    
    6. Make sure that the traffic situation permits driving out of parking space and driving off as usual.
    The Automatic Parking Assistant is turned off automatically.

 

BMW Operating System 8
    1. Turn on drive-ready state.
    2. With the vehicle at a standstill, press the "Parking Assistant" button or engage reverse gear.
         The parking assistance systems view is displayed.
    3. Select the desired direction for driving out of the parking space on the control display.
    4. Follow the instructions on the control display.
        Green: the system takes control of maneuvering.

        The speed can be reduced with the brake. Other interventions will cancel the system.

        A message will be displayed at the end of the maneuver.

    5. Make sure that the traffic situation permits driving out of parking space and driving off as usual.
        The Automatic Parking Assistant is turned off automatically.

 

BMW Operating System 8.5
    1. Turn on drive-ready state.
    2. With the vehicle at a standstill, press "Park Assistance" button or engage reverse gear.
         The parking assistance systems view is displayed.
    3. On the control display: select the desired parking method.
        In the instrument cluster: select suggested parking method with the knurled wheel on the steering wheel.
    4. Follow the instructions on the control display or in the instrument cluster.
        Green: the system takes control of maneuvering.

        The speed can be reduced with the brake. Other interventions will cancel the system.
        A message will be displayed at the end of the maneuver.

    5. Make sure that the traffic situation permits driving out of parking space and driving off as usual.
        The Automatic Parking Assistant is turned off automatically.

 

BMW Operating System 9
    1. Switch on drive-ready state to pull out of the parking space using Park Assist.
    2. When your vehicle is stationary, press the Park Assist key on the center console or engage reverse gear.
        The parking assistance systems view is displayed.
    3. On the control display: Select the desired parking method.
        On the instrument cluster, select the suggested parking method using the knurled wheel on the steering wheel.
    4. Follow the instructions on the control display or in the instrument cluster.
        The status symbol for the Automatic Parking Assistant illuminates green. The system takes control of the maneuver.

        The speed can be reduced with the brake. Other interventions will cancel the system.

        A message will be displayed at the end of the maneuver.

    5. Make sure that the traffic situation permits driving out of parking space and driving off as usual.
        The Automatic Parking Assistant is turned off automatically.
