How does the Traffic Jam Assistant work in my vehicle with BMW Operating System 8?

Assisted Driving Mode Plus helps drivers guide their vehicle through traffic jams. Supporting steering movements take place without the driver actively steering. The system uses the sensors of the Steering Assistant. 

 

Functional requirements

▷ The functional requirements of the Steering Assistant are fulfilled.

▷ The Steering Assistant is active. ▷ The function is only available on certain street types, e.g. freeways.

▷ Driving on a road without pedestrians or cyclists.

▷ Sufficient lane width.

▷ Lane markings and a vehicle driving ahead are detected.

▷ Speed below approx. 40 mph/60 km/h.

▷ The Driver Attention Camera in the instrument cluster detects that the driver is paying attention to the surrounding traffic.

▷ The function must be available in the country in which the vehicle is driven.

 

Switching on Assisted Driving Mode Plus:

  1. As soon as all functional requirements are met, an additional icon for Assisted Driving Mode Plus will be displayed on the toolbar. The toolbar is displayed at the bottom of the instrument cluster.
  2. Select Assisted Driving Mode Plus with the button on the steering wheel. The icon for Assisted Driving Mode Plus is shown in green.
  3. Two green LED lights are illuminated on the steering wheel.
  4. The indicator light in the instrument cluster is shown in green.
  5. The system begins to assist the driver with vehicle control. 

 

Depending on vehicle equipment, this function can be enabled/disabled on the control display.
