Forward collision mitigation with brake intervention in your BMW is intended to prevent collisions and reduce the severity of an accident. The driver assistance system consists of two subfunctions, depending on the technical equipment of your vehicle:
Forward Collision Mitigation to protect against rear-end collisions uses a camera in the windshield of your BMW and additional radar sensors. The camera-based driver assistance system warns you of a possible risk of collision at speeds above approx. 3 mph. The integrated brake assistant performs an active brake intervention up to maximum deceleration in a speed range of 3 - 50 mph. If your BMW also has a radar system, your BMW brakes up to a speed of 155 mph and at speeds above 130 mph a brief brake intervention will occur.
The pedestrian warning to protect against collisions with pedestrians and cyclists warns and brakes at speeds above 3 mph.
Please Note: If the vehicle speed exceeds approx. 155 mph, the system is deactivated temporarily. As soon as the speed drops below this value again, the system is reactivated.
Further information on the front collision mitigation with brake intervention can be found in the BMW Driver’s Guide App or in the operating instructions for your BMW.
