How does active pedestrian protection work in my BMW?

At speeds that are common in towns and cities, the Daytime Pedestrian Collision Mitigation function warns the driver of a possible risk of collision with pedestrians and cyclists. The system may brake automatically. In the event of an accident, the system helps by reducing impact speed. Sensors detect the traffic situation in their detection range. The system issues a warning of a possible risk of collision with pedestrians at speeds above approx. 3 mph/5 km/h.
