How do I unlock and lock my BMW with the Digital Key or Digital Key Plus on my smartphone?

With BMW Digital Key and BMW Digital Key Plus a compatible smartphone acts as the vehicle’s key fob and main key. The owner has control over vehicle functions directly on their smartphone or smartwatch “Wallet” feature.  

 

To unlock and lock your vehicle: 

  • BMW Digital Key: Uses "near field communication" (NFC) mobile standard. Hold the compatible smart device to the door handle on the driver's side to lock and unlock. 
  • BMW Digital Key Plus: The vehicle automatically locks or unlocks when approaching or leaving the vehicle using the secure ultra-wideband technology (UWB). If the vehicle has been parked for some time, the user will have to touch the door handle to unlock the vehicle.
