BMW M Compound and BMW M Ceramic brakes are designed for elite performance, but they also make more noise than traditional brakes. Here are some tips on how to keep brake noise to a minimum.
- Keep to a careful break-in period for the first 300 miles with M Compound brakes or 700 miles with M Ceramic brakes. During the break-in period, try to keep the braking pressure moderate and avoid heavy braking, unless necessary to stop the car.
- If your brakes get wet, for example, after washing your car, dry the brakes by gently braking two to three times from a speed of 30 mph, traffic permitting.
- For ideal performance after a period of moderate driving, try to heat up the brakes with some more powerful stops from higher speeds, always minding traffic safety, Use your brakes in more extreme situations.
- Cool off your brakes to ensure the safety and longevity of your vehicle. It is important to drive at least 6 miles, approximately 10 minutes, at a speed of 30 mph to 60 mph before parking the car, always depending on the traffic situation and legal regulations. This helps adequately cool off the brakes and prevent overheating.
- When the brakes have cooled, lightly brake a few times in order to clean excessive brake dust off your brake discs.
- BMW M brake pads for M Compound brakes and M Ceramic brakes use advanced materials like carbon ceramic composites, which offer exceptional heat resistance, but will produce dust.
