Additionally, since the eDrive system of the 2026 BMW iX requires only a small amount of cooling air, the kidney grille is completely blocked off, transforming its role to become a digital intelligence panel. This panel seamlessly integrates camera technology, radar functions, and other sensors behind a transparent surface, along with their heating elements and cleaning system. Furthermore, the kidney grille has been coated with an additional polyurethane layer, reducing its susceptibility to damage. Remarkably, the grille also features a self-healing surface, where minor scratches can be repaired within 24 hours at room temperature or through a five-minute supply of warm air.
