The Setup Card makes it easier to set up the main key for the BMW Digital Key on your smartphone. In an emergency, you can also use the Setup Card to lock and unlock your vehicle (range of functions corresponds to the integrated key). For security reasons, you should therefore keep the Setup Card in a safe place outside your vehicle after setting up a BMW Digital Key.
The Service Card functions as a fully-fledged vehicle key. You can use the Service Card, for example, to hand over your vehicle to your BMW service center, BMW Roadside Assistance or valet parking. It is deactivated when the vehicle is delivered and, for security reasons, it should only be activated when required and then deactivated again. Keeping a deactivated Service Card in the vehicle is safe. For security reasons, you should keep an activated Service Card in a safe place outside your vehicle.
Both cards use the "near field communication" (NFC) mobile standard for wireless data transfer with your BMW or your smartphone.
