How do I install a BMW Remote Software Upgrade in my 2025 BMW X3?

Your 2025 BMW X3 comes with BMW Operating System 9, which is regularly updated via BMW Remote Software Upgrades. As soon as new software is available for your BMW, you will be notified by push message via the My BMW App (if installed on your smartphone and connected to the vehicle) or via your vehicle's Central Information Display. Refer to the included release notes to learn more about new and improved features.

 

Once an update finishes downloading via the My BMW app or automatically via your vehicle's cellular connection, you will receive a notification to install the update in your BMW or you can schedule a date and time that is convenient for you. Please ensure that you have a strong cellular or WiFi signal when using your mobile device to download an update.

 

To start the upgrade, make sure your vehicle is safely parked and will not be used for the next 20 minutes. Simply follow the instructions to install the upgrade. Once the update is ready to install, you will have the option to "Perform upgrade now" once you turn the engine off.

  

Please note:

  • While an update is installing, you are unable to use your BMW. Park your BMW safely for up to 20 minutes while running the installation. 
  • If you are downloading via your Central Information Display, it is best to drive in an uncongested area.
