Comfort Access in your 2025 BMW 4 Series allows you to conveniently lock, unlock, and start your BMW using various methods - the physical key, the Key Card, and the BMW Digital Key on your smartphone or smartwatch. Communication with the vehicle is based on different wireless technologies. The physical key communicates with the vehicle using radio waves in the MHz range, while the BMW Digital Key Plus utilizes "ultra-wideband" (UWB) and Bluetooth® for data transfer. In the best-case scenario, the unlocking or locking function is available via the smartphone or physical key up to a radius of approximately 5 to 9 feet around the side and rear of the vehicle. The system works together with preferences set in the iDrive to either unlock just the driver's door or all doors.
When drivers have arrived at their destination, the system will recognize they are leaving the vehicle with the key fob and will automatically lock the vehicle at a distance of approximately 6 feet from the doors. Depending on the selections made in the iDrive, the system may also flash the lights, sound the horn, and/or fold in the side view mirrors.
